Welcome
We are proud to announce that the Swiss Society for Biomaterials (SSB) will host the 22nd European Conference on Biomaterials (ESB2009), the annual conference of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB). It is our pleasure to invite you to ESB2009, from September 7-11, 2009 in the Beaulieu Convention Centre, Lausanne. Lausanne lies on the shores of lake Geneva at the foothills of the Swiss Alps. This is the third time that Switzerland hosts this meeting, the previous times both being held in Davos in 1984 and 1993, organised by Prof Stephan Perren and the late Prof. Berton Rahn, one of the founders of the ESB. We at the Swiss Society for Biomaterials are very proud to host this meeting, just within our 15th year of existence. ESB2009 intends to strengthen the scientific basis of the traditional ESB core topics while increasing interaction with both the clinical and industrial side of biomaterials. We expect the majority of participants from Europe but also a considerable number from Asia and overseas composed of researchers, medical professionals and manufacturers. ESB2009 intends to attract clinicians by planning several
keynote lectures from clinicians, by subdividing the meeting in day themes
and by contacting clinical societies/authorities to obtain credit points. ESB2009 intends to draw on the extensive MedTech industry within Switzerland and Europe to bring closer working relationships with industry. We intend to collaborate with alliance, whose function is to connect the French Swiss universities to local industries including MedTech ones. Alliance is also part of the European Enterprise Network whose goal is to help support and build up international technology partnerships within Europe, especially for small businesses. It is also our intention to organize an exhibitor evening. ESB2009 will start each day firstly with the ESB award lectures (Jean Leray and George Winter). We have taken this opportunity to try a new idea at ESB. Remaining as a single session there will then be a lecture on clinical problems that need to be solved within a theme of the day and a lecture of the state of the art in research of that area. Subsequently, we will move on to the break out parallel sessions. One of the four parallel sessions will continue the "theme of the day", throughout the day. Pre-meeting workshops, mainly educational will also be held on the afternoon of Monday 7th. The opening ceremony on the evening of the 7th will have a plenary lecture from Prof. Jeffrey A. Hubbell. ESB2009 intends to connect biomaterial research with current clinical problems to produce progressive translational research. ESB2009 will be the venue to present and discuss basic,
applied/translational & clinical research in a multi disciplinary
environment. We look forward to welcoming you in Lausanne to ESB2009 and to a very successful and rewarding meeting. Yours Sincerely,
|
